About Us

We at the Philippine Nurses Association- Greater Sacramento Area Chapter (PNA-GSAC) aims to serve as an organization of Filipino- American nurses living or practicing within the Greater Sacramento Area. The Greater Sacramento Area includes the counties of Sacramento, Yolo, Sutter, Eldorado, Placer and Yuba (Sacramento-Roseville-Arden-Arcade).
 
As a subsidiary of the Philippines Nurses Association of America (PNAA), the PNA-GSAC supports the overall mission of the PNAA in upholding the positive image and welfare of its constituent members, promote professional excellence, and contribute to significant outcomes to healthcare and society

Vision

Our vision is to serve as a local professional organization that will act as a catalyst for excellence, community service, and integration.

Mission

Our core mission is to "give back" to the profession and community. We have four primary initiatives: Connect, Advance, Reach-out, and Empower (C.A.R.E). 

  • Connect- We support professional and social activities that will foster unity and networking among its members. 

  • Advance- We support the vocational development of the members through education, mentorship, and scholarly activities. 

  • Reach-Out- We collaborate or partner with other community or professional organizations in developing or implementing programs that may benefit our members and communities.

  • Empower- We support the empowerment of our members and collectively as a team to lead and advocate for the welfare of the Filipino- American nurses.

Connect

Opportunities to meet and work with accomplished fellow nurses and other stakeholders in the local, national, and international organizational activities. Learn other practices and issues that may impact you, your practice, or explore other career opportunities. Meeting like-minded people and sharing insights, and interests can be an enriching experience. It helps you develop a mutually beneficial relationship for professional or even personal purposes. 
You may also find our social activities an excellent venue to unwind. It is not all work, but also fun!

Advance

Nursing is a dynamic profession. As practitioners, it is our responsibility to keep ourselves informed, competent, and skillful in various aspect of nursing practice. 
Take advantage of our continuing education programs, conferences, scholarships, certification discounts, free subscription to publications, mentorship, and leadership programs. We want you to succeed. Your success is ours too!

Reach-Out

Our organization is zealous in supporting efforts in serving our communities and fellow nurses.  We have partnered with different community agencies in providing services that benefit our communities. We are participating in health fairs, soup kitchens, and community health education programs. 
At the national level, we are supporting programs through the PNAA and the Philippine Nurses Association of America Foundation (the philanthropic arm of the PNAA) such as the Gawad Kalinga, continuing education activities, research activities, medical missions, scholarship, The Leadership Training Institute, and Balik Turo missions in the Philippines.  We believe that our service extends beyond the bedside. We are accorded this opportunity- pay it forward.

Empower

As the largest group of minority nurses in the U.S., it is important that we have a voice in different national and international professional organizations, government agencies, and community organizations in discussions that will impact our job and practice. Some examples of how PNAA has represented us in the past include:

  • NCEMNA Participation (1998) – National Coalition of Ethnic Minority Nurses Association

  • NCLEX-RN Philippine Test Site (2007)

  • CGFNS Ethical Recruitment Guideline (2010) – Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools

  • Policy discussion to stop exploitation of recruitment agencies

  • Human Rights Procedural Guideline

  • Philippine Medical Missions
